Sometimes diseases can ruin a family, but this one united us together to be stronger parents and caregivers to the ones that we love.
Also this one disease made us look at life and cherish every moment with our children and loved ones. Life is precious and can be taken from anyone at anytime!
What Is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive systems of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene causes the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that:
clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and
obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.
In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.
Mady is doing very well, she is on enzymes daily everytime she eats, also she take liver bio salts to clear out her tubes between her liver and gall-blatter, mostly a preventative med for long term problems with her liver. I thank god she is not as bad as she could be, but still think about what could be done if more information would be available, so that is why research for cystic fibrosis is very important.
Mady at the beach in Minn, when she was visiting grandpa and grandma summer 2008, she is 2 years old."
