She came out surgery fine and we went home the next day. She laid on the couch for two days before she was able to lift her up. She was in good spirit, all she wanted to do is get up and play like nothing happened. From that day on we always spoke to her about how there are bad dogs and good dogs. She was upset with Grandpa for a while, she would not even look at him when he visited.
What is so upsetting about the whole thing is who are you mad at the dog of course or is the owner? And who gets to make the decision on if the dog get reported?
As far as the relationship between our family and Grandpa, we no longer see him at his house due to that he did not follow the law and report the accident also the dog is still alive. Not by my husband's choice. If Annabelle was not hurt so bad and had to go to the hospital the dog would no longer be alive. But would that be right or would it just be making him feel better.
Currently I have hired a lawyer to settle with the insurance company, but is that wrong?
Since then we adopted a yellow lab named Lily, and I think it was the best thing we could do for Annabelle. They play and the dog loves the kids. We just have to reassure her that there are good dogs and bad dogs.

Our daughter was attacked by a friends dog in October. It was one of the hardest things I've been through, though as kids will, she has bounced back very well.
She's 7.It was German Shepherd. Now this dog HAD bitten before, but it bit family and where we live, you don't have to report it if it's family, however the reported it from the emergency room here, because they do all dog bits that way in our state, unless it's family.
By the time we got home from the hospital much later that night, the animal control people had already went and taken the dog, and were at our door ready to take pictures of our daughter and get their report filed.
She is still afraid of Shepherd's, and we also adopted a dog, but we opted for a smaller dog a little chihuahua, she loves him to death, but he's grumpy sometimes and let's out a little growl to inform us, and she is okay with that now too.
We too, cut ties with her little friend. They allowed their own kids to be bitten, then told mine the dog was nice. I was livid.
We also hired a lawyer, and are going through all the hub bub, remember it isn't a personal thing, but that is what insurance is for, and you'll need help with bills, and emotional things that may come up, and things that could come down the road, for us, we opted not to have her under the plastic knife just yet.
However she may want to as she ages and feels less confident about her faqcial scars, we NEED to have some re payment from the insurance company.
I was SHOCKED the dogs owners did not offer right away to file it! I would if anything happened to anyone on my property, that is why I pay my bills.
Best of luck to your beautiful and sweet girl, and to you and your husband, it must be difficult, but as it is, your own family and your daughters ability to heal both emotionally and physically is most important now.
A dog being put down after it bites is important, once it behaves that violently, you can't trust them anymore. And the next bite might be lethal.
